Overview
The HeartMath Inner Balance Coherence Plus is a heart rate variability (HRV) sensor that works with the HeartMath app. Most HRV wearables record passively overnight and give a score in the morning. This one is used actively, for a few minutes at a time: the app reads your heart rhythm from the sensor and guides your practice in real time, with a live score for heart coherence.
A detachable ear sensor on a cable plugs into a small Bluetooth sensor pod that clips to your shirt or collar, and the pod connects to the HeartMath app by Bluetooth.
- Make sure the sensor is charged. Charge it with the included USB-C cable from a computer USB port or a 5V USB wall adapter; the light pulses amber/orange while charging and turns solid green when fully charged.
- Install the HeartMath app on your phone. Search for "HeartMath" in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- Plug the ear cable into the sensor pod. Clip the ear sensor to the center of your earlobe and attach the pod to your shirt or collar. Press and release the power button; the white light on the heart icon blinks when the sensor is ready to connect. In the app, tap Start Now, then Continue, choose "Use a HeartMath Sensor", select Bluetooth, pick your Coherence Plus Sensor from the list and tap Connect. Do not pair the sensor in your phone's Bluetooth settings; it pairs inside the HeartMath app.
- Start a session in the app and follow its real-time guidance. A regular practice of 10 minutes a day is suggested.
